Diploma leading to Bachelors is generally of two types in Australia. They are Certificate Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree. They take between 3 months to two years to complete. Diplomas are generally considered to be equivalent to one to two years of study at bachelor degree level.
These courses are usually delivered by universities, TAFE colleges, community education centres and private RTO’s (Registered Training Organisations).

In Australia, Certificate diploma refers to an advanced level course done in the vocational education and training sector or university, and is academically equivalent to some years of a bachelor degree. Gaining this diploma gives the student a professional status and position similar to undergraduate degree.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA OR ASSOCIATE DEGREE
In 2004, Australia added “associate degree” to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). This title was given to more academically focused diploma courses. An associate degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded by community colleges, junior colleges, technical colleges, bachelor’s degree-granting colleges, and universities upon completion of a course of study usually lasting two years.

A Graduate Diploma, which is undertaken after completing a degree but at undergraduate level, and in a field other than that covered by said degree (e.g., the Graduate Diploma of Education necessary to become a school teacher in most Australian states); and a Postgraduate Diploma, a coursework-only qualification which is undertaken as additional study in a specialisation within one’s degree area. The course itself and the certification are referred to as a “diploma” in Australian English.
